Orthodontics Gold Coast
If you’re looking to improve your smile due to having crooked, gappy or misshapen teeth, then orthodontics may be the answer for you.
Orthodontics is a field of dentistry concerned with the alignment of teeth. The purpose of orthodontics is to correct misaligned teeth for structural and aesthetic reasons.
Why Would I Need Orthodontic Treatment?
If you’re at all self-conscious about your smile, you have difficulty eating or experience any sort of discomfort caused by your teeth structure, orthodontics could be a great solution for you. Orthodontic treatments gradually move your teeth over time, forcing them into a desired position. Commonly, orthodontics is used to treat teeth that are overcrowded, have wide gaps, overbites, underbites and cross bites. It is a very common treatment and can take anywhere between six months and three years to see final results.
Orthodontic treatments are not just for aesthetic purposes. For many people, structurally misaligned teeth can cause other health risks. Having crooked teeth or wide gaps can make it difficult to properly clean teeth, which can lead to further long-term damage.

It is a common misconception that orthodontics is primarily for children and teenagers, however, it is a branch of dentistry for everyone. Many adults opt for orthodontic treatment to create a straight smile or to reduce health risks. Whatever the reason may be, orthodontic treatment is for almost anyone.
Braces are the more traditional orthodontic option and are used to realign your teeth into their desired position. The time people need to wear braces varies greatly, depending on the severity of the changes they need to undergo. Some people can have their braces off in nine months while others may have them for three years or more.
Braces work by applying pressure to the teeth, forcing them to move gradually into new positions. As the teeth shift, the underlying bone actually changes shape because of the pressure that is applied. Braces are made up of a number of elements, including brackets, orthodontic bands, spacers, arch wires, ties, a buccal tube, elastic rubber bands, and springs. Each component works together to straighten the teeth effectively.
If you choose to have braces, you will usually need to come in and see us around once a month so that your dentist can check that your treatment is working as it should. Your braces will be adjusted to ensure that a steady and continuous pressure is being exerted on your teeth.
Clear aligners correct the alignment of teeth by using a series of clear custom-made mouth guard type aligners. These aligners are changed every two weeks or so as your teeth move. Each aligner is unique and designed to gradually move your teeth into their desired position.
We are one of the few practices that has an intra oral scanner and 3D printer to manufacture aligners in house. This results in a lower cost and allows us to have more control over the process.
There are a number of benefits to choosing clear aligners, the most obvious of which is that the treatment is so discreet. For this reason, they are a particularly popular choice for adults and teenagers who would prefer to avoid traditional metal braces. Clear aligners can also be removed for eating and oral hygiene, so you can brush and floss your teeth as normal, and there are no dietary restrictions necessary during this type of treatment.
It is important to note that clear aligners are not suited to every orthodontic case. We recommend that you come in and see us for a personal consultation. Your dentist will evaluate your teeth and advise you on the best course of treatment for your particular needs.
